Israel is love--afternoon of Day 4

Ahava is hebrew for Love, and it doesn't get any bigger than this!  Although we were pretty wiped out, once we got to the Museum we were thrilled to be there--in addition to the great sculptures, we saw a wonderful model of Jerusalem that put everything in the Old City in perspective for us.  Then, Dina told us  about the discovery and preservation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and we saw them ourselves.  On the same day as the bat mitzvah, it was fascinating to see the Hebrew writing from the scrolls, reminding us that the same Torah portion the girls read today, which could have been somewhere in that Museum, had been read for thousands of years.

After the Museum we walked up to the Knesset and looked at the Menorah, a gift from Britain in 19-fifty something.  1953 I think.  After Yad Vashem the day before, I could only think of it as a guilt offering.  But it was interesting to see the detail and how every square in the menorah told a story--from David v Goliath to the destruction of the Temple to the Holocaust and in between.
